James Ford “Jim” Ricketts, 93, of Glen Allen, Mo., died at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo., on November 15, 2017. Born in Lutesville, Mo., on July 22, 1924, he was the only child of Charles Post and Nannie Teresa Ford Ricketts.
He graduated from Lutesville High School as WW II started. Because of his hobby as a ham radio operator he entered the Merchant Marines. He worked as a radio operator on shipping vessels during the war.
On April 25, 1958, he married Alma Marie Phelps in Holly Springs, Miss. She preceded him in death on June 1, 2013.
Jim used many talents during his life. He worked with wood and in timber sales. He built butcher blocks, and was still operating Ricketts Bargain Store and Ricketts Boots. At a late age he learned computer skills to run an ebay site to sell shoe merchandise.
He is survived by six children: Jackie M (Bob) MacKay of Cape Coral, Florida; Mary Ellen Hennemann and Bill (Patti) Ricketts of Marble Hill; Sue (Rodger) Yount of Barnhart, Mo, and Dodi (David) Conrad and Jimmy L. Ricketts of Glenallen; 15 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill. A funeral service will be at Noon, Monday at the chapel, with Dr. John Englehart officiating. Burial will be in the Glen Allen Cemetery with military honors.
