Chester Lester Herrington, Sr., 91, of Marble Hill, Mo., died at his home on March 28, 2018. Born in Richwoods, Mo., on May 5, 1926, he was the son of Albert Syndney and Prudie Duncan Herrington. He first married Juanita Jasper in 1944. She preceded him in death. He married Thelma Browne in 1987. She preceded him in death in 2010. For many years he worked as a stone mason in St. Louis, and as a self-employed tree trimmer and pest control operator. He moved to Marble Hill in 1987.
Chester was a Navy veteran of WWII, serving in the Philippine Liberation and the Asiatic-Pacific theatre, earning three stars. He volunteered with the Masons and the Shriners; and was a life time member in the VFW, Eagles, and the American Legion. He volunteered at the Missouri Veterans' Home in Cape Girardeau.
He is survived by two daughters: Patricia Dudley of McClure, Ill., and Pam Shipley of Harden, Ill; one granddaughter, Delina Dudley of McClure, Ill., and two great-grandchildren: Mathew Porter of Illinois and Joshua Porter of Texas; and his companion for seven years, Mae Mclean, of Marble Hill.
Besides two wives, he was preceded in death by two sons: Chester Herrington, Jr., and Michael Herrington, a grandson, Mark Dudley, two sisters and 10 brothers.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, March 30, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis. Hutchings Funeral Chapel of Marble Hill is handling arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers monetary contributions to help with funeral expenses.
