Harold John Horrell

Harold John Horrell,68, of rural Marble Hill, Mo., (Glennon), passed away at his home on May 7, 2018. Born on March 28, 1950 at home in Glennon, he was the son of Christopher John and Bertha Jane Elfrink Horrell.

On Sept. 4, 1976, he married Rose Mary Eftink at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Chaffee, Mo. They made their home on the farm where he was born and raised four children: Christopher, Calvin, Adam and Beth.

Harold was a man of the land. He grew up on the family farm doing the work needed. At the age of 16, he began managing the farm. From that time until his death he worked with the family land. Spending time with his family, taking the grandchildren for Ranger rides, and hunting the woods were his best times.

While farming he also sold McNess Feed. In 1999 he started working for the Bollinger County Road and Bridge department. His specialty was operating the road graders. He retired in 2012.

Harold enjoyed listening to the music of Elvis Presley and Johnny Cash and watching the movies with Clint Eastwood and the tv show "Gunsmoke". He preferred Fox News and listened to Rush Limbaugh. He was a talented prankster especially on April Fool's Day. Telling stories with friends and family along with his wry sense of humor was humorous for all. He was a serious card player, especially pitch, and he was a competitive checker player. Farm auctions were another favorite, along with chocolate milk and ice cream.

He was a life-long member of St. Anthony Catholic Church at Glennon, where he served on the parish council.

He is survived by his wife, Rose; three sons: Christopher G. (Nicole) Horrell of Glennon, Calvin J. (Antoinette) Horrell of Hillsboro, Mo, Adam H. (Ashley) Horrell of Gordonville, Mo., a daughter, Beth R Horrell of Nashville, Tenn.; two brothers: Larry Horrell of Chaffee, Mo., and Harley (Joan) Horrell of Glennon; a sister, Betty (Bill) DeBrock of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; and nine grandchildren: Barry, Thomas, Isabelle, Sophia, Scarlett Lucianna, Clara, Kelton, and Ava Horrell.
