Donald L. Stanley, 80, formerly of Wood River, Illinois, passed away Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019, in Grassy, Mo, where he has lived for the past 24 years.
Born on Nov. 13, 1938, to Charles and Louise Leiber Stanley of Wood River, he attended East Alton/Wood River Community High School. He married Debbie Dickerson in 1987.
He worked for many years as a delivery salesman for Frito Lay and Tastee Bread. He was a property owner and spent much of his time commuting from his farm to Wood River.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing, boating, working around the farm, raising animals, and he loved his dogs. When his children were younger he enjoyed camping, canoeing and spending time at the family cabin on Carlinville Lake where he enjoyed boating and water sports. He was a lively person full of wit and humor.
He is survived by his wife; two sons and their spouses: Chris and Patty Stanley of Wood River and Tim and Tammy Stanley of Cocoa Beach, Florida; two daughters and their spouses: Joni and Jorge Fonrodona of Bethalto, Ill., and Teri and Scott Patterson of Fairfax, Virginia; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Capitola Hart of Charleston, NC; and numerous
nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Charles Stanley.
Visitation will be held in Marble Hill, Mo., at Hutchings Funeral Chapel on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2019, from noon until 3:00 p.m.
Visitation will be held at Marks Mortuary on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019, from noon until 3:00 p.m. Services to celebrate his life will begin at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be in Valhalla Cemetery.
