Bernice Marie LaFaire of Marble Hill, Mo., was born Feb. 6, 1943, in St. Louis, Mo., the daughter of Aurbrey and Dolly Irene Lamkey Douglas. She died April 22, 2010, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Bernice was a woman of courage and fortitude. She determinedly made a home for her five children and continued her education to improve her life. After many years of factory work, she graduated from LPN school and worked at Jackson Manor and Elder Care of Marble Hill as a nurse. She was a collector of Matchbox cars and Hotwheel collectibles, which she later shared with her grandchildren.

On Aug. 30, 1991, she married Raymond LaFaire. Together they enjoyed playing Bingo, and socializing with their friends. He died on July 18, 2004.

Surviving her are four children: Marsha Greer of Riverview, Fla., Donald Greer, Jr. of Marble Hill, Anthony Mark Greer of Glen Allen, Mo., and John Greer of Millersville, Mo.; a sister, Louella Kircher of Potosi, Mo., two brothers, Orville Douglas of Maplewood, Mo., and David Douglas of Union, Mo., and 11 grandchildren. A daughter, Tammy Pitts, predeceased her.

Visitation and funeral service will be Friday, April 23, at Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service time. Burial will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery in Potosi, Mo.
