Robert "Abel" Swan, 93, of Marble Hill, Mo., passed away at his home on May 1, 2010. He was born Jan. 13, 1917, at Grassy, Mo., the son of Charles Abel and Ida May Hillis Swan.

Abel spent his entire life in Bollinger County. He married Ora Rea in 1940. She died in 1969. He then married Irene Roark in 1970. He became part of her family of seven children: Wendy (Bill) Robbins, Janie (Joe) Dalton, Richard (Dean) Roark, Randy (Linda)Roark, Rick (Judy) Roark, Twili Frymire, and Rennard (Tammi) Roark. Irene died in 1986.

Abel was a farmer and worked as a sawyer at Graham Pallet in Grassy. He enjoyed every kind of hunting -- deer, squirrel, coon, or rabbit.

He is survived by one brother, Norman Swan, his step-children, and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him were his brothers: John, Woodrow, Carrel, Herman, Vernon and infant brother, Calvin.

Visitation will be May 3, 2010, at Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be Tues., at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. George Hutchings officiating. Burial will follow at the Grassy Friendship Cemetery.
